In August of 1988, sixteen Sweet Adeline members decided to form their own chorus. In the fall of 1988 they rented the hall at United Church of Christ in Abington and named the chorus "Island Grove Chorus", in reference to the historical part of the town. Lois Faustino was temporary director until they voted in Joan Desmond for a permanent one. May 2003, our assistant director, Pat Hoitt was voted our new director with Cory Winters as assistant director. Pat retired in 2018 but continued as our interim director until Feb. 1, 2022 when Dr. Yufen Yen became our director. Pat became the Interim director from July 2022 until late December 2022. Mary O'Loughlin is the present Interim Director.

Reaching out to the community through the gift of song, the Chorus repertoire includes a delightful mix of toe-tapping jazz numbers, beautiful ballads, Broadway show tunes and traditional American songs performed and choreographed to captivate audiences of all ages. Some performances include audience participation. A typical chorus performance includes numbers sung both by the full chorus and by the quartet The Fourmidables.

In addition to singing for the community Island Grove Chorus has helped support the community by supporting the Family Home and Services in Brockton every year since 1995. Numerous talented high school seniors have also received a scholarship from Island Grove Chorus every year.

Island Grove Chorus performs in Sweet Adelines Region One Competition every two years. In 2014 we won the Audience Choice Award for most entertaining chorus. Everyone in the Region still remembers our baseball package. Watch this package on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLtmNVdUPOc&t=10s
